COVER
François Macré's "Thriller (64 tracks a'cappella version)"

It took François Macré 350 hours to record the 64 a cappella tracks you’ll hear in this totally off-kilter cover of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” — and the result is almost as creepy as Jackson’s 14-minute original.

According to Macré’s (endearingly mangled) explanation, every sound we hear was recorded on a basic PC, with “no instrument, synthetizer [sic], beatbox, or even . . . sampler, but only the sound of my voice livened up with Reverb and slight Chorus.” The results are impressive: Anyone can just bang a cowbell; Macré makes the sound with his vocal cords. But our favorite bit is the French-accented Vincent Price vocal that kicks in around the 4:20 mark. Très bien!
