Lev hurts

San Francisco–based animator Lev Yilmaz is a self-styled “Ambassador to the Alienated” — and “Tales of Mere Existence” is his suitably bent calling card.
The characters you’ll meet in these deliciously dry webisodes may look like stick figures, but their issues run deep: depression, apathy, and the failure to connect. The narration is hangdog and monotonous. The subjects range from “How to Break Up with Your Girlfriend” to “I’m Not Going to Think About Her.” But the clips themselves are funny, wise, and surprisingly moving. Think of them as B-sides to the jolly sentiments you’ve been enduring all week: Christmas is so 24 hours ago.
