Swedish Dance Bands

Sure, ABBA Gold is ubiquitous. But when it came to Swedish dance bands, Abba was only the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks to Yemii Pics, we now know about the Schytts, Baracudaz, and Zenits — seventies-era acts whose polyester pantsuits would put your average ice dancer to shame. Unlike ABBA, these groups tend to be unisex boy bands: You’ll see some sweet mullets and woolly muttonchops that wouldn’t have been out of place in Victorian England. The gallery’s like a portfolio of Liverpool’s other skiffle bands — these guys are so close to greatness and yet so far away. Benny, Björn, Agnetha, Anni-Frid? Sorry we ever doubted you!
