Ginou Choueiri doesn’t lack for talent, but you might not want her painting your portrait: Her medium of choice is the lowly potato.
Choueiri, who is based in Beirut, began her portraits after noticing the many similarities between human heads and potatoes: the porous skin, the varied shapes, the eventual decay. And so, the works you’ll find here look like the menu items at a David Lynch–themed restaurant: all bulging eyes, contorted faces, and ears jutting out from inopportune places. The most nightmarish vision is an eerily lifelike rendition of our 43rd president.
