WEBSITE
The Money Meltdown

The Money Meltdown is a smartly simple website that helps you make sense of the financial crisis in even less time than it takes for the Dow to perform its morning plummet.

Started a few weeks ago by an enterprising online journalist named Matt Thompson, TMM points you to the essential articles, podcasts, and studies — by NPR, VoxEu.org, the BBC, and other information sources. Want perspective? See pages 23 to 37 of the IMF working paper “Systemic Banking Crises: A New Database” (the authors compared 127 banking crises that took place between 1970 and 2007). Looking to laugh through your tears? Check out the clips Thompson has posted (Jon Stewart’s “Clusterf#@k to the Poorhouse” is especially good). Like VSL, TMM embraces the less-is-more paradigm: The site won’t take you more than a few minutes to navigate, but those minutes will provide you more than enough information to feel suitably briefed — or at least able to bluff your way through any given dinner party.
