Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal are childhood buddies (and viral-Web-video makers) with a bent: They have an abiding love for local, low-production-value ads. They expressed that love some time ago, in an immensely popular Web series called I Love Local Commercials. And now they’ve got their own TV show.
The ten-part series follows its eponymous hosts as they produce commercials for the owners of a car wash, a cat hotel, a facility that trains aspiring pro wrestlers, and an African-American hair salon (among not a few other businesses). The commercials are ridiculous, but watching them come together is a blast, and McLaughlin and Neal’s underlying affection for small-scale, Ma-and-Pa operations couldn’t be much clearer. (Premieres on IFC next Friday, June 24, at 10 p.m.)
