Ladies and gentlemen, meet Chris Morris: the funniest, edgiest, writer, radio DJ and television personality in the U.K. His first feature-length film, Four Lions, opens in the U.S. this Friday.
The lions in question are highly incompetent jihadists; would-be suicide bombers who can't seem to catch a break. Morris directs, but doesn't appear in, the movie, which is as sharp, and no less provocative, than his best television shows, Brass Eye and Nathan Barley (both of which are well worth seeking out online). We won't give too much away, except to say that the satire's broader this time around, and sadder, in ways that eventually shade into tragedy.
