I Wanna Be Your Dog

In the 30 years since the Stooges recorded “I Wanna Be Your Dog,” the song has been covered by a variety of other artists, including Uncle Tupelo, Joan Jet and Sonic Youth (“Weird Al” Yankovic even paid tribute, with the parody “Let Me Be Your Hog”). But perhaps the most unexpected—and entertaining— version is this short film by Georgie Greville.

Described as a “a subversive take on the casting process,” the film opens with impossibly lovely young models anxiously awaiting their moment to audition. The recognizable Stooges beat is supplied by clicking heels, nervously tapping feet and drumming fingernails—each girl recites a lyric before eventually joining the others for the chorus. Have the words “I wanna be your dog” ever taken on such dark overtones as when each pretty face blends into the next, all in the hopes of pleasing a visibly bored casting director? We’re guessing Iggy Pop would approve.
