The State: The Complete Series

Devoted fans of the short-lived mid-’90s MTV sketch comedy series The State have long clamored to watch the show on something other than VHS bootlegs. Good news: On July 14, The State: The Complete Series, a collection of all 24 episodes—plus previously unaired skits and other bonus material—will be released on DVD for the first time.

When it debuted in 1994, The State became an instant hit among its target Gen-X demographic, thanks to the show’s sarcastic wit and the hilarious, screw-up characters played by young comedians, many of whom have gone on to further successes. Fans of Wet Hot American Summer, Role Models and Reno 911! will recognize younger versions of Michael Showalter, David Wain, Thomas Lennon, Michael Ian Black and Ken Marino. Revisiting the bizarre, infectious humor of the series will make you wildly nostalgic for a time when MTV had so much more to offer than The Hills.
