Earlier this year, we recommended Let the Right One In — a pretty-much perfect vampire film out of Sweden. Now Norway has stepped up to the plate: Dead Snow is the best low-budget zombie flick we’ve seen in ages.
A surprise audience hit at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Dead Snow (in theaters 6/19) follows eight medical students who take to the mountains for their Easter vacation and come up against a gang of undead Nazis. Director Tommy Wirkola doesn’t shy away from gore (this film is not for the faint-of-stomach), and the whitewashed terrain adds another layer of creepiness. But the film never loses its sense of humor — and you may find yourself smiling, not hiding, through the final scenes.
